What equipment do I need?

  • Each player will need Cleats, Baseball Pants, and a Glove.
  • The league provides a helmet, bat, and catchers gear to each coach. However, many parents choose to provide this on their own due to sanitary reasons. As a volunteer organization with over 200 players and 25 teams it’s difficult to maintain all of the equipment all of the time.

What kind of bat can I use?

  • If it is not wood, it MUST have the USA stamp. If it doesn’t, it cannot be used. In 50/70 and Juniors, bats with the BBCOR stamp are allowed as well as USA stamped bats.
  • Tee Ball bats are only to be used in Tee Ball.

What does my child wear on the first day of practice?

If your child has baseball pants, they should wear those. You may want to wait to hear from your coach if you don't already have baseball pants so you can purchase the right color for the season. Your child should also wear a hat. Don't forget sunscreen and plenty of water. Uniforms include a shirt and a hat and will be handed out before or on Opening Day and should be worn on game days. Your team manager will also tell you what color socks and belt to purchase.

How can I learn more about the T-Ball program?

Our T-Ball program for 4-6 year olds is designed to teach basic baseball fundamentals while bringing kids and parents together for a fun time. Click here for our T-Ball FAQ

How do player evaluations work?

SBLL conducts player evaluations for Minors and above so that managers may form teams that are competitive with one another, and to ensure that players are placed in the division which their skills are best suited. If age allows, they may be placed up or down based on skill level. Not all children that try out for a specific division will be chosen for that division; however, ALL children will be provided a place to play regardless of ability. Since Little League has quite a bit of overlap with their age groups, there are many factors involved with the division is which one is placed.

How is League Age determined?

Ages are based on League Age, not Calendar age. League age is set by Little League International and cannot be changed; please refer to the Little League Age Calculator.

How does the player draft work?

In Minors and above, teams are formed via draft. A draft does not guarantee a player will play in the division they desire. If a player does not get drafted, they will move to the lower division. SBLL staff are prohibited from discussing the outcomes of a draft with parents or players at any time. Any questions regarding a draft should be brought up with the coach. Little League International also prohibits parents and coaches discussing the draft in any way prior to the draft taking place. Any violation to this rule may result in the player and/or coach being removed from the league. There is a league representative present to make sure that drafts are in compliance with Little League International rules.

If my child attends a local school, can they participate in SBLL programs regardless of home address?

Yes. Any child that either attends school or lives within the SBLL boundaries will also be eligible for the selection to an All Star team.

How do I sign up as a coach or volunteer?

You will have the opportunity to sign up as a Coach, Assistant Coach, or Volunteer at the time of registration. Head Coaches require board approval. All coaches must pass a Brevard County fingerprint background check and Little League background check, and are not guaranteed to be selected.

A number of additional volunteer opportunities are available, including working the concession stand or helping with field maintenance.

What is the Non-Volunteer Fee?

SBLL require 3 hours of volunteerism from each family. At the request from some parents, we have included a fee option to “opt-out” of the volunteer requirement. We are a 100% volunteer organization and need the help from everyone. We have many volunteer options and the one most families do is “concession” where you work in the concession stand during your team’s shift. Other options include coaching, helping with the board, umpiring and field maintenance. The “volunteer opt-out fee” gives parents the choice of making a donation to the league in exchange for exemption from the 3 hour requirement.

Does SBLL provide financial assistance to families who cannot afford registration?

South Beaches Little League is ready and willing to help any family in financial need. No child will be denied entry to our league due to financial hardship. Please contact our league President at [email protected] to arrange financial assistance. Any communication with the league President on this subject will be held in the strictest of confidence.
